What would it be like to go back there after so long? How
will it feel to walk on the same roads again? Meet the same old people?
Should I pretend to be someone else or should I tell them
that no— I’ve not moved on. I am still the same person. Why is it so difficult to leave your past behind? Why is let bygone be bygone easier said than done?
It feels so strange, yet so similar. As if I’ve been through
this situation before, faced this same anxiety & unease or is it Déjà vu.
Sounds as though your narrator isn't moving on at all, while everyone else has. Not good thing. Your title made me think of Yogi Berra's classic, "It's like déjà vu all over again." :-)

You are right Janet. He is still stuck in the past. I have yo check out Yogi Berra's classic.
DeleteThanks
Mousume
More often than not - "its easier said than done" ! past always sticks around - someway or the other !!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! It's always lurking somewhere in the background
DeleteEven if we've changed, just going back to the past, meeting the same people, transports us back into the old mold. A great idea for a story, Moushmi.
ReplyDeleteSo true karen....this always happen to me when I meet my old school frds...we talk about the se stuffs as if it happened yesterday
Deletemoving on is hard. You think you have and then you wonder? :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are right Sarah. It is hard.
DeleteDear Moushmi,
ReplyDeleteMoving on is often hard to do. You've captured you MC's dilemma well.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you so much, Rochelle! Why is it that I always wait for your comment.
DeleteGood story. Poor person hasn't been able to move on for some reason. No wonder it's hard to go back home. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks a tonne! I'm so glad you liked it
DeleteYes,it is usually easier said than done-feel for the narrator here.Well written,Moushmi:-)
ReplyDeleteAtreyee,
DeleteThanks for appreciating
I write a LOT about letting go, and just had a long talk with one of my kids about this.. it's so hard to do, and even harder to really learn. Your story really captures the frustration and challenge. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteHey Dawn Q,
DeleteLetting go is the hardest, I think! In retrospect, you see a more clearer picture, and you carry the experience with you. I'm glad you got what I was trying to say.
your words come across nicely as your character struggles with moving on and letting go of the past. i enjoyed your story.
ReplyDeleteLetting go is one of the hardest things in the world to do. We are all tethered to some invisible string that keeps us clinging to the past. Easier said than done - colloquialisms come so easy because we are comfortable to them to use when we want to express something. Very well thought provoking piece - Thanks! Nan

ReplyDeleteHey nanclairefalkner,
ReplyDeleteI believe past makes your present, though clinging to is often labelled unhealthy -- letting go is not easy.
Thanks for the appreciation!
